Summer Junior Theatre Workshop
(students entering 3rd grade and up)
June 9 - June 28, 2008
9:00am - 3:00pm Monday-Friday

This summer, theatre campers will present the musical

The Emmy® Award-winning Saturday morning educational
cartoon
series is the basis for one of the most fun and energetic
musicals
ever to hit the school stage! Like the classic television series,
Schoolhouse Rock Live! Junior is a hip, entertaining and
educational treat that shows young people that learning
can be as fun as you choose to make it.

During this three week workshop, students will participate in a variety of acting exercises and improvisations which will develop their creative expression. Since we limit our enrollment to a small group, students benefit from one on one, individualized attention. They will also learn the basic elements of theatrical design and how they contribute to the overall effect of a live theatre performance. Students will rehearse the scenes, music and choreography for their 2 performances of SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK LIVE! JR.at a local theatre TBA.

Students will learn how to use their voices on stage, learning how to project and enunciate their lines as well as change their vocal color to suit a variety of characters and emotions. The workshop will focus on developing a character through voice, movement, and inner life. In addition, students will be introduced to set design and construction as well as costuming and makeup.

Under the direction of Encore acting instructor, Megan Harms, students will gain a deep appreciation for the dramatic arts by seeing how a production comes together from beginning to end and by exercising professional theatre practices at all times. This promises to be a lot of fun as well as a one-of-a-kind INDIVIDUALIZED, educational experience. Students will get to put all their creativity to use in a variety of ways. They will stretch their imaginations in ways they never dreamed of, even playing different roles at lunch time! Perhaps Royal Tea at the Palace, or a crew of hungry Pirates!

About the camp director: In addition to teaching acting at Encore, Megan Harms teaches in the talented drama program in St. Charles Parish elementary schools. She worked extensively for Theatre West Virginia as an actress and acting instructor, starring in a regional tour of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" and performing in mainstage summer musicals. Megan also performed in several shows for Swine Palace Productions in Baton Rouge, including a collaboration with Shakespeare and Company of Lenox, Massachusetts. An active member of the theatre community, Megan has performed in New Orleans for Le Petit Theatre, The Shakespeare Festival at Tulane, DRAMA, Rivertown Repertory Theatre and The Tennessee Williams Festival.
